INSTABASE DETAILS

The InstaBase is a complete base composed of nine different modules designed to meet the needs of an Initial Permanent Crew of eight.

The living modules include:
    - The BedHab
    - The BathHab
    - The LivingHab including the living room and kitchen

Two aesthetic habs include:
    - The ArtsHab
    - The Tower

Additionally, there is a multi-winged WorkHab and two GreenHabs.

Finally, to address the reduced gravity health challenge, there is the SpinHab with centrifuge.

The BedHab has four bedrooms for an Initial Permanent Crew of four couples. They share two BathHabs between them.

The LivingHab would have two floors with the kitchen on the bottom and the living room on the top floor including an exercise area. The living room would have a large flat screen where the crew could connect as a group to Earth and also watch the latest movies. The kitchen could have robotic arms from the ceiling allowing cooks on Earth to prepare and cook meals for the crew in order to offload some of those daily chores from the busy crew.

The ArtsHab would be a place where the Initial Permanent Crew could express their artistic talents for which they were selected and trained. This could include the fine arts such as original paintings and sculptures. The literary arts could include broadcasts of storytelling and poetry. Of great interest would be the performing arts including stand-up comedy but especially dance. In the Moon's 1/6th gravity all sorts of unusual dances could be performed using all surfaces of the ArtsHab. The Tower is largely an aesthetic feature but the crew could use that lookout to watch incoming landers land in the distance.

The WorkHab would have sections for organic chemistry, processing rocks retrieved by robotic rovers, machining, and the assembly of a growing telerobotic workforce. Metallurgy would be conducted in an outside area with processed metals being brought in through an airlock for machining.

The two GreenHabs are sized to provide the volume necessary to meet all of the nutritional needs of the Initial Permanent Crew. It would most likely use nutrient irrigation flowing through a soil produced by crushing rocks and adding organics. In this way we can avoid the hazardous dirt on the Moon and Mars while simplifying growing conditions for the plants. Magenta LEDs hung thoughout the GreenHabs would allow for the intensive growing of plants using a 3D approach.

Finally, the SpinHab would contain a centrifuge with swivel chambers at the ends. Those chambers would be tall enough to allow crew to be able to stand and get upright, full gees for several hours a day. The key is that the crew would need to conduct activities that don't require the turning of the head -- activities such as screen time.

Features external to the InstaBase would include solar power systems, Cybertruck-like vehicles with swappable crew and cargo modules, the Ice Harvester telerobot, ice processing equipment, and dexterous telerobots able to swap out spare parts.
